Forest College museum is at located at Cowley Brown Road. It is one of the
oldest buildings in coimbatore and it is over 100 years old, in a way
the museum building itself is an heritage site. Museum is within Forest
college campus grounds and you can get feel like a mini forest within the city.
Apart from wildlife the exhibits include Arms used in olden days, wood
crafts, huge collection of insects, cultural artifacts and many more.
When you enter museum a lifelike
stuffed Wild Gaur (bison) welcomes you with a Sloth bear and deer next
to it. Stuffed Leopard, peacock, brahmini kite and other stuffed birds,
Preserved baby elephant and elephant fetus, elephant skeletons are great
attractions, especially for kids. And for those who are
interested/experts in Insects or timber this place would be a treat.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Anamalai Hills sub-cluster
in the Western Ghats, which is under consideration for selection as
a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located between Nelliampathy and Anamalai
ranges near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu
border, the sanctuary is spread across 277 sq km. Elevation of the
wildlife sanctuary ranges from 984 ft to 4593 ft. Started in 1973, the
sanctuary was classified as a tiger reserve in 2009.
If you are looking for adventure, then the tree-house inside the reserve
forest area in Thoonakkadavu is the best option to stay. State forest
department rest houses at Thoonakkadavu, Thellikkal and Elathode offer
comfortable lodging. "Tented Niches" built in the sanctuary are also
good. It is part of responsible tourism efforts and is managed by a
joint venture of Kerala Forest Department, Tourism Department and the
seven Eco Development Committees performing under Parambikkulam Forest
Development Agency. The eco-friendly cottages are twin bedded Swiss
tents with modern attached baths. The Thellikkal inspection bungalow
deep inside the forest requires an eight km trek.
Black Thunder is the finest water theme park located at the foot of the Nilgiri Mountains near Coimbatore. And it considered the biggest water theme park in whole of Asia. This theme park encompasses a sprawling area of greenery and natural landscapes. It extends to nearly 65 acres of rustic land near the forest boundary.
The Black Thunder theme Park has many entertaining games for children and adults alike. Luxury accommodations are available for family and for other tourists. Tourists come here for holidaying with their family and have endless fun. Corporate meetings and casual get-togethers are common with conference halls and board rooms available here. Lunch is served in the open lawn that appears like a green carpet. A multi cuisine restaurant caters to all sorts of menu that is popular with people. Other facilities in the offing are a Health club, forty deluxe rooms for stay, a bar, coffee shop and children’s play area.
A massive 12 acre land is available for parking. The nearest access from Coimbatore to Black Thunder can be by road or train to Mettupalayam.

Kovai Kutralam is approximately 35 kms from the man bus stand. Most
probably closed during the November, December times. It is an amazing waterfall in the midst of cool nature and one can really enjoy a full day with the entire family at this spot.. Look out for stealthy monkeys and road
side iguanas. Limited bus service is available from the city and this area is out of bounds after 5 pm.

The Dhyanalinga Temple is located in Isha Yoga Center, about 35 km from
the city, in the quiet and tranquil surroundings at the Velliangiri
Foothiils. Just sitting inside the temple with eyes closed for 15
minutes can make you peaceful and meditative. Make sure to take a dip in
the copper pond before entering the temple, it can greatly enhance the
experience and rejuvenate the body. Every day at 11:50 a.m and 5:50 p.m.
there is a Nadha Aaradhana event, when live music is being played
inside the temple. On a certain days there is Maha Arathi (performance
with music, dancing and fire) in front of the temple.
An excellent place to visit during the summer season incoimbatore. Only gents allowed to hike. Night time is the
best time too..
'Off Road
Adventures' located at Neelambur Village in our city is a nice place to
visit if you need some fun. They have paintball, archery, ATV rides etc.
They are also opening few more fun activities by December. So if you are looking for some quality fun, do visit this place.
The nearest theme
park in our city is the Maharaja Theme Park. Located in Neelambur, this
place has some awesome rides
It also has a multiplex inside which is also good. A good place to
hangout with your friends and for spending time with your "friend" . So check out this place and have fun!
'That's Y' Food in RS Puram
is a decent hotel with a good range of desserts. Their Mud Souffle made
of rich gooey chocolate souffle served with vanilla ice-cream is one of
the most lusted after dessert and is one of a kind. If you visit this
place, do try this!
'Shahi Grill' in Peelamedu is famous for its tasty
grill chicken. It is very popular among the people of that area. Their
masala grill is so tasty, you will never find such taste anywhere in
Coimbatore. If you go by that side, don't forget to try the grill
chicken over there.
Even though 'Venu
Biriyani' in Gandhipuram is famous for its Dindingal biriyani, their
'mutton kola urundai' has gained a lot of fans. It is so delicious and
juicy that one cannot stop with a single mutton ball . It
is ONLY available in the afternoons and gets over pretty soon. So if
you want to taste this one, make sure to be at the hotel before 2p.m.
Our Coimbatore has
this beautiful Botanical Garden maintained by TNAU. Located opposite to

There is a vada pav shop
opposite to Annapoorna Hotel, Saibaba Colony. This place has many fans
and is the best place to have a vada pav . It is quite famous among the people of Sai Baba Colony but for people in other areas , do check out this place!
'Sampoorna' Hotel is located opposite
to Coimbatore Court. This used to be one of the best hotels some 10-15
years back always packed with people. But now there is absolutely no
crowd . But still the
taste hasn't gone down a bit. Also they have some unlimited biriyani
offer happening from 4pm-7pm.
There is a temple
called 'Munthi Vinayagar temple' in Puliakulam. It has a single stone
granite idol which is the biggest in Asia and weighs around 14 tonnes
Some people say that this temple is not known to many people around the
city. So if you go by that place , do check out this temple.
There is a shop called
'Juice Lounge' at the 4th floor in Brookefields Mall which has a fine
range of juices, smoothies etc. The unique thing about this shop is that
they serve a range of protein shakes. They taste really good and cost Rs. 130 . Though not economical to have everyday, still a place to grab a protein shake occasionally. Their other items are good too!
How many of you have been to the
Bowling Alley at the arcade in Brookefields? It's really a fun thing to
do with a couple of your friends. The cost for a person is Rs.150 ( not
sure ) but it's still a good activity to have some fun . It has only a few tracks and its full on the weekend evenings.
If you live in Coimbatore and have not yet tasted the Krishna
Sweets Mysurpa, then you must be living under a rock. This mysurpa is
loved by almost everyone in our city and is the most demanded sweet by
our relatives outside Coimbatore . The way it just melts in our mouth is so awesome that it makes us forget everything around us . A must try in Coimbatore.
Sree Annapoorna is an exclusive place for the people of Coimbatore
It has been in our city for a very long time and is the best place for
tasty vegetarian dishes. They have a huge list of signature dishes and
each dish soothes our taste buds. Their coffee is one of the signature
dishes and is the best finishing item after a tiffin.
The Infant Jesus' Shrine is a very famous church at Kovaipudur in Coimbatore. The 'Novena Prayer'
is a very powerful prayer for which a large number of people gather every Thursdays. The peaceful atmosphere of the church
and the powerful prayer makes it to be one of the special places in Coimbatore.
It is there in our city
for nearly 80 years and is one of the oldest restaurants in the city.
The trademark of this hotel is its tasty yellow biriyani rice and the
tender meat. Situated in Variety Hall road, this place is a must visit
if you are a biriyani lover.
The Lakshmi Narasimha
temple in Ukkadam is a very powerful temple for all those types of
'dhoshams' . It is a beautiful temple with Lord Vishnu in the form of
Narasimha with Lakshmi Devi seated on his left. This is a must visit
temple in Coimbatore.
'Peking' is a famous Chinese
restaurant in our city. It is located at VOC and at RS Puram. Their
dishes are so tasty and mouth watering. A slightly expensive restaurant
but the quantity they provide compensates for that. A must visit place if you love Chinese food.
There is a small shop called 'Burger Hub' located in Peelamedu which serves yummy burgers It is a famous place in Peelamedu and is a perfect hangout for college students.
The Eachanari
Vinayagar temple is one of many other beautiful temples in our city. It
is said that the idol was being brought from Madurai to our city to be
placed in the Perur temple, but the cart which brought the
idol broke down in Eachanari. All theirs attempts to bring it to Perur
temple failed and hence they decided to build a temple there. It is a
very beautiful temple and people from all over Tamil Nadu visit this
place.
Women and handbags are some things which are not supposed to be separated
. Every woman loves handbags and have a minimum of atleast three. So if
you love buying handbags, there is a shop called 'Jaya Singh Bags
Collection' in Cross Cut Road,
Gandhipuram. Its to the right of the road and comes as soon as you take
the right to Cross cut road from that signal. Its next to the Novelties
shop. You can find some good looking handbags (the ones for daily use)
there for a good price.
There is a place
called 'Delhiwala' in Ram Nagar where you can get some tasty north
indian dishes. It is a vegetarian hotel and they offer a wide range of
dishes from sweets and snacks to all sorts of main course dishes. If you
happen to go by that side, do visit this place!
There are only two official race tracks in Tamil Nadu and Coimbatore has one of them
'Kari Motor Speedway' in Chettipalayam is well known among the youth of
Coimbatore. Many racing events take place over there by the various automobile clubs in our city. Almost all the young guys of our city would have visited it atleast once You can always expect a thrilling experience if you visit this place on a track day.
There is a shop called
'Priya Juices' at the Cheran Book House lane near Clock Tower,Town Hall.
This shop is famous for its tasty fruit juices. Its a very small shop
but the quality of the fruit juices they serve is amazing.
There is a place called
'Snack Street' in RS Puram where you get some quality street food such
as panniyarams, samosas etc. It is a vegetarian restaurant and the price
of the dishes are very reasonable too. They also serve indian breads,
fried rice etc. If you happen to go by that side, don't forget to check
out this place.
Now this is one of the
biggest and oldest things in Coimbatore. This temple dedicated to Lord
Shiva and is a place of extreme sculptural excellence . Inside the temple, turn any direction and you will find beautiful sculptures. You look up towards the ceiling and you find amazing paintings. Everything inside the temple is so wonderful.
There is a place in Ramanathapuram
named 'Unni Maya' where they have very tasty and quality chaat food. It
is quite famous among the people of that area. If you happen to visit
that area, don't forget to check out that place.
Even though Brookefields
the Cinemas is an amazing theatre with quality sound, it is not the right
theatre to watch a big hero movie on the 1st day For pure mass experience, BIG Cinemas is the place to be. It is really an amazing experience watching a mass movie with fans shouting , whistling in BIG Cinemas.
One of the best places for sweets in Coimbatore is A2B. They
have a wide variety of mouth watering sweets. They also have chat over
there which is too good. All their sweets are different and each taste
different in their own way. Also they have their restaurant on top which
has some quality dishes. No wonder they are have a large number of
shops.
Everyone of us have some
favourite dress of ours which can't be worn anymore since it has a small
tear somewhere. The tailor shops refuse to stitch these since they
don't have the time for such small works. So what you have
to do is take all those torn clothes and head to Sunday Market,
Gandhipuram. You will find a lot of mobile tailors there who will stitch
them for Rs.10/20 and will give you right away.
There is a
new place in Race Course called Bombay Brasserie. This place serves some
tasty indian breads and have some cool mocktails. If you happen to be
around that place, do visit them.
One of the best places to
have non-veg meals in Coimbatore is in Haribhavanam. It is located in
three places across our city- Gandhipuram, Peelamedu and near RTO
Office,Anna Salai. They have a wide variety of non veg dishes especially
Chettinadu dishes. If you are a meals lover and have not visited this
place yet, you have made a big mistake.
Ooty is a famous hill station in
Tamil Nadu. But for the people of Coimbatore, it is just another area of
our city like Gandhipuram, RS Puram,. Whenever we feel like escaping
the heat of our city, we start off to Ooty. And some even go to Ooty just to have a cup of coffee/tea. So visiting Ooty has become a must-do thing if you are living in Coimbatore.
There is a place called
'Bhura Market' near Town Hall. This place will look like heaven for the
girls. It has every little accessory for each color of your dress.
Bangles, bindis, earrings , you name it. Also a place much
visited by the soon-to-be-brides. They say its cheap too. So if you
want to make yourself sparkle with accessories, this is where you should
be!
Eventhough day time
traffic is a big issue in Coimbatore, our city is a very silent one at
night. If you are bored or not feeling sleepy, just go grab your vehicle
and do a calm drive around the city You will be amazed by how beautiful Coimbatore is at night.
For the best
experience, start from Ukkadam towards Town Hall, turn towards Avinash
Road, then take the Air Force Rd near Race Course upto Sungam Junction
and end your drive in Sungam Bypass Rd.
A special omelette with mutton
topping just for Rs.30/- is served in Kovai Biriyani Hotel. The hotel is
at Saibaba Colony,near Ponnusamy Arch and one in the petrol bunk cut
opposite to Brookefields. Don't forget to try that out when you go there
next time.

There is a Hanuman Temple located in Peelamedu. Its a very famous and powerful temple.

shop in Lakshmi Complex named 'Beauty Selections' near the stairs where
you can find some quality accessories and cosmetics.
The only place in Coimbatore
where you can get some quality Jigarthanda is an Ice Cream parlor under
Dindigul Venu Biriyani, Gandhipuram. They serve with different flavours
of Ice cream toppings which is too good.

This is a shop for guys where you
get all sorts of jeans, t shirts, earrings, accessories everything.

Taste the Cream Donut in The Cinemas @ Brookefields
A small shop located behind
Ramanathapuram bus stop named Kovai Chilly Chicken Centre. They have
very tasty chicken and soup. Not a big place to sit and eat, but just go
for a takeaway.
There is a bajji stall in
Goods Shed Rd. near Coimbatore Head post office. They offer varieties of
bajji's and is the most popular one in that area. People with love for
bajjis will love this place !
